Me and the rib will be hitting up Wheeler Branch on Saturday morning and probably will make a day out of it, thanks to the suggestions of some people on here.

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fish/recreational/lakes/wheeler_branch/index.phtml

I keep hearing about great fishing, beautiful water, and the fact that it is in the glen rose area tells me it will be great scenery as well.

We would be more than happy to have people tag along with us as well. We will probably be getting out there between 0730 and 0800 and will be fishing for anything that wants to be caught.

We will be bringing our lunch with us as well, so should be making a full day of it.

Looks to be a very warm day so bring lots of water if you are going to join.

Post up how it was after you go. I would be all over this trip, but this weekend is booked. I am planning on going down in a couple of weeks though.

I would love a chance to catch some walleye, never have. Google Maps is pulling up a big piece of land when I search for Wheeler Branch Lake. Where is it?

Ah, that is way too far for me. If I was going to drive that far, I'd hit Fork. noidea

Hope you guys tear 'em up! I wouldn't even know how to fish for walleye. Do they hit bass lures?

Worth it for crystal clear water and no power boats to deal with IMO.

At least for a try.

And i have no clue how to catch Walleye

That's four hours round-trip for me bro. It does sound fun but I have a lot of prepping to do for my gulf trip this weekend, can't devote ALL day to it. If you guys do well or catch some walleye, I'll come next time. Maybe camp out the night before.

Crystal clear water definitely piques my interest... makes for better underwater release shots with the GoPro! Take some pics and I hope you tear 'em up. thumb

I got ya bud; just meant relative to Fork. I'll give a report when i get back and try to take a picture or two of the water. I don't have a GoPro (or a waterproof camera) so i won't be taking pictures on the water.

Hopefully the fish are hungry

Agg, you should do well. Although I know many/most of us are CPR'rs, note that they have a slot on blacks. No camping. Limit of 15 boats on the lake - first come, first serve (I don't believe kayaks/canoes are included in that count so this is likely going to be a great kayak spot).

A clear lake where you can catch walleyes and smallies - what is Texas coming to? smile

drift big ol night crawler on a worm harness just off the bottom fishing dropoffs at points should do the trick

What exactly is a 'worm harness'.

Tried googling it and keep coming up with these Canadians fishing with worm. Something tells me that is something different

Also, anyone have any suggestions on a place to camp in the Glen Rose area? Probably won't camp on this trip, but if I enjoy it, i may make a weekend out of it sometime

The canadians fishing with worms is exactly what it is. Its the best way to cover lots of water to find walleye while still having your bait on the bottom.

a worm harness is about a 2ft leader with a couple small floats, a spinner blade, and two hooks at the end. You hook a whole nightcrawler on the end, and then pull the whole rig behind a bottom bouncer.

Fishing was invented so man wouldn't get bored between turkey and dove.
