I was just wondering if the Big Fisherman has opened back up between Aransas Pass and Rockport. In October last year it was closed and had a sign that said it was remodeling and was to reopen in Jan. 2013. My family and I try to eat there a couple of times on every trip to the coast. Yummy!!!!

Just got back from the area a couple of weeks ago. Sure didn't look like it was open to me. Grass was grown up. We hadn't eaten there in several years anyway. Seemed pretty good 10 yrs ago or so but the quality of food seemed to have gone downhill and there were better places to eat imo. But, you could always count on LARGE portions there.

I don't know if it reopened and don't care. It had gone downhill so much in the last few years. I agree with scott01. You got mounds of bad food when you ordered.

I know in the past the Big Fisherman got some bad reviews by many. Others, like myself thought it was fine. To each his own I guess.

We ate there about 8 years ago, I ordered some type of fish plate and there was so much food on it that the waitress was dropping some fish unto the floor and she was apologizing for it, I told her I couldn't eat that much in 2 days. I've heard that it went down hill in quality.

Last time I ate there was before the fire when they had the animals. Was a cool place, food was good and you wouldnt go home hungry!

Its closed and has a for sale sign Bout time. It had been on life support, selling terrible food to unsuspecting tourist for years.

It was the place to go for dinner In the past, but the past few years has gone downhill. I would see more stray cats running around then then people.

In its day it was the place to go down there.

The Boiling Pot, Poor Man's Country Club, Moon Dog and Charlotte Plummer are all good. Big Fisherman had its day, but there are plenty of other choices.
The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

Last time I ate there, it was as if they were taking a tiny piece of seafood battering and frying it and then re-battering it and re-frying it again. And then possible repeating the steps a 3rd time. Made it look like you got all this food. But it was really just a whole lot of greasy breading with very low quality meat in the middle. Been eating at the Crab N ever since.

Lived there 35 yrs, the fig bisherman was always a high volume low quality place. The all u could eat stuff like chicken fried steak was very similar to elementary school quality stuff. We did go there on occasion to get the "fried" fix. Went there before and after the fire. Crab N was one of our favorite "better quality" places. Awesome crab cakes.
