I have a lowrance 520c which is 2d sonar. I would like to also have a side scan. Rather then spend 1400 plus for a HB 998 or a lowrance hds8, Could I just buy like a lowrance elite 5 sdi or elite 5x and have both mounted on the console and use both at the same time and have a 5 inch screen going on each one so you dont toggle back and forth? The 520c would have 2d sonar and te elite 5 would have sidescan or downscan on their full screens. That would be a lot cheaper. L

That doesn't sound like a bad plan. Do either of those units have side scan or only down scan?

I'm not sure. I know the elite 5x doesnt have gps, but I wouldnt need it as the 520c has gps.
Can you have 2 transducers mounted on the same side on the transom? or would they block or interfere with each other ?

Get the Elite 5 or 7 without GPS. Either have down imagining and 2D sonar. You'll be glad you did!

Elite 5 or Elite 5 DSI doesn't have side scan.

if I get the second one with side scan, where would you mount the transducer so they would not interfere with each other?
should I put it on the trolling motor and the head on the console?
Or put both transducers on the stern?
