I have fished ALL of those ponds back there and have NEVER been jacked with - By cops or anyone else.

The only time I was hassled when I inadvertently got onto the Gun Range property. And man, was i catching some HOGS back there.

Hit this little area of the Elm Fork that runs by Riverside for about 30 minutes
Hooked 2 sandies, 1 small Lmb, and a Crappie all on a Mepps 1/9th oz comet mino!

I know this is an old topic, but I'm relatively new to the area and this super close to my house. Any of you vets want to show a young guy a thing or two about these canals?

Shad City, the Westgate pond--it's one of those spots that looks better than it fishes. Seen several people fish that area. At times, you will see kayaks and bass busters in there. The fishing there is tough, haven't caught anything of size out of that pond. The pond lacks a good supply of bait fish, done ok there on plastic worms.

Thanks for the reply, collincountytx. Yeah I went and checked it out a couple of months back and it definitely looked like a great spot from afar, but once I got to the shoreline the water had a very weird tinge to it. Great visibility, but it just looked like there was nothing living in it. Tossed a rt-l-trap for about 40 minutes, didn't get any action. There was something big splashing around in the pond though, I'm guessing it was a gar if anything.

It's probably a gar and has eaten everything in there.

That place turns on & off (for me) I have hooked into some big fish there - LMB in the spring but this time of year, nothing. I am changing my approach and hoping for a better week.

cctx is right! I have seen some big gar in there and also some big carp. The biggest thing I have seen was a dead beaver he was belly down in the water for about a month this past summer. Not a pretty sight but that tail sure was huge...

I have taken my bass buster in that area and my fish finder went crazy.....gar everywhere, especially in the water at 635&Luna.

I caught some nice channel cats with punch bait, but none on cut shad.

I have fished there 5 times because I'm hard-headed and was determined to get something good....but no dice. 2-3 lb cats.

I did meet a Japanese man there who was hauling in some Carp w corn. He seemed very excited about the spot on the river off of Riverside and NW HWY

Good luck to you, but I don't think ill head back there
