Im new to this forum but i need some help with the galveston area. My friends and I are trying a lot of spots around the area usually using dead shrimp on the bottom. We can not seem to find fish other than trash fish, while looking for mainly trout/redfish. Where should we be trying and what bait/lures? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Try live bait in the surf on a fish finder rig or if its calm a popping cork. Lure I usually use gulp, spoons, and rattle traps.

We have kayaked around tiki, and waded san luis pass, and also waded east bay in anahuac. And what do you look for while fishing the surf? I know not all spots are created equal, what makes one area better than the other? Thanks for the tips!

Be very careful wading san luis pass. People die there every year!
Do a quick search on this forum for surf fishing tips. I know the topic has come up quite a bit in the last couple of months.
Definitely get into throwing live bait and lures. They will change the game for you. Usually you can go down to the beach with nothing more than a cast net and use that to catch shrimp or finger mullet to use to catch trout and reds and macks.

At ROLLOVER PASS you can fish from the bank, wade on surf or bay,the same you can fish from kayak and if you know to fish you can catch nice specks, red, flounder etc.

Thanks! I have heard rumors about how great surfside/christmas bay is. Is this true? Or should i not even bother the time and effort?
