I met up with Fish Zombie, Ryan Cook, Paddling Oars, and a few others at High Island over Memorial Day to take our kayaks "beyond the breakers" and try to catch some sharks and bull reds. Well, the sharks weren't there, but the bull reds came out to play! We caught probably around 40 of these while we were there.

Hey just curious how come you paddled out instead of using the mirage drive?

Well, first off because you hop in shallow and don't want to get pushed back into shallower water and damage it. Especially since I had the turbo fins which are longer. And ESPECIALLY since it wasn't my boat - wasn't taking any chances.

Second, you have to make some very quick direction changes because you want to hit those waves directly head on. I learned the hard way that even a slight miscalculation and hitting it at an angle will turtle you, even in the tank ProAngler. I only turtled one time last weekend but I broke my GoPro monopole that I use in my milk crate.

You could definitely use the mirage drive earlier than I did, but at your own risk, and you'd still want your paddle in your hands in case you needed to turn sharply. Paddling was fun though, and in the ProAngler it was a WORKOUT!

not much time to get the drive in between waves. And it don't take much to push you sideways and turtle.

We ALL learned that lesson. Mike did ANY of us NOT turtle over the course of the weekend?

Not long after some monster fish (presumably Jaws) destroyed Mike's reel, he turtled in water over his head... I've never seen someone flip a Ride and get into it that fast. Couldn't have been more than 3 seconds flat!
