I have found if the line is cut close the fish will dissolve the hook most of the time.

I've always heard this, but I wonder how long it actually takes to disolve a hook. If a hook it stuck just right, the fish can't eat, or eating may pull the hook deeper. I've got some tricks to get deep hooks out, but some you just can't.

like the man says...if you're swimming in the ocean and get bitten by a shark, its not a shark attack. You're in THEIR neighborhood. If you're at home in your shower, turn around and a shark is in there with you...THAT'S a shark attack

Caught a bass that had line coming out of its mouth. It was attached to a tube that was in its gullet. Part of the hook was still there but the hook and point were totally dissolved.

I've caught one with line coming out of his gullet. It bit my bait as well. The fish still looked healthy but it could have only been a day since it was broke off.

I caught one on canyon last week that had a rusted out hook hanging out of his but. I am assuming he passed it through. If not someone waited way to long to set the hook!

They were expensive but I bought a long pair of Snap On wire cutters, 99% of the time I can get them to the barb and cut off and roll it out sometimes reahing up through the gills.

From my past experience I recommend getting the hook out if you plan on keeping it in the live well that hook will act just like a knives and cut them up flopping around in the live well. I will go up through the gills and roll the hook out and pour mnt. Dew down his mouth stop any bleeding.

I prefer to use the through the gill hook removal. Since learning this technique several years ago, I cannot remember having to leave a single hook in a bass.

I left a lot of swallowed hooks in catfish and eels as a kid, my dad always said they would dissolve

I have caught one like that also. The fish was trying to pass it but it was stuck. Only the eye of the hook and a piece of line were hanging out! Ouch!
