I know this should go on another page, but this page is prob. the most read, and I can sure use some info soon. I just bought a new GMC Sierra, and I also signed for an extended warranty. I'm wondering if it's really worth it. What experience have you guys had? I can return the warranty within 30 days (soon). Thanks in Advance.

Dodge gives the first 100000 miles free but the extended warrinty is great if your going to drive a lot of miles.

I think it's worth it. Better to have it and not need it.

I drive a ton, 40-50k a year, I have never bought one and never been sorry, I regularly run a vehicle to 200 k plus miles. If a vehicle breaks I get it fixed or get another. If you are worried about repair costs then it might be a good idea for you. I figure they are making money off of them and I can cover the repairs myself so I will just self insure. Last 2 vehicles 450k total miles, $2800 in out of warranty repairs. Both of these have had a 100k power train standard.

My best advice would be to sell/trade it just before the warranty expires. I had an extended warranty on my Jeep, nothing wrong at a final checkup, and then about $1000 in repairs within a month of the warranty expiring, and more since then. I would have been better off just saving the money I spent on the warranty to pay for the actual repairs.

How long do you plan on owning the vehicle? How much was the warranty? You can PM me these details and I'll give you my perspective. In a nut shell I didn't buy one when I bought my Tahoe other car or boat. The finance guy at the boat dealership laughed when I asked the questions I asked because he has never had anyone ask them but he immediately stopped trying to sell me on the ext warranty. He knew it was a lost cause.

For what it costs (minor) its worth it. I have it in every vehicle ( a ton of them) wouldn't be caught without it. I typically don't keep one long enough to see if it pays off however if the wife ever puts the strong arm down on me I will have it for the long run. Never know what wil happen or when, and these new trucks can get very expensive in a hurry.

2007 GMC Sierra with 90,000 miles now, even though it has 100,000 warranty, the five years came first. I bought ext. warranty. Needed it to replace power steering, but paying full price for PS would have cheaper than ext warranty. I did negotiate price on ext warranty. I figure they double their cost as the list price so I offerd to buy at 50% off. But settled at 25% off.

My policy is to never buy them on anything. The money I have saved will pay for any repair. I do not buy products that I think i need an extended warranty on. When i bought my new Toyota the finance guy gave me the hard sell. I told him to keep talking and i was just going to turn around. He finally said $10/month and i bit. That is until I got to work and ran the numbers and found out he goofed. I had him redo the paperwork without it. Keep in mind there is a lot of room for negotiation in them.

GAP is another story and worth the 300 bucks $300 on what? I am not a fan of Gap either but the costs that have been presented to me were higher than $300. I know it is based on loan value. Last time I got a quote on Gap it was like $500 on $28k.

Gap is to cover negative equity. If you KEEP equity in your vehicles from down payments and good trades GAP is useless.
