I know sandbass and hybrid/striper are hard on electric knives. Just curious if the electrical or mechanical side fails most often ? Guides?

I burn the motor up in mine about once a month. I use the $13 Black and Decker from Walmart though

I use the American Angler MT3 Saltwater Series electric knife, all steel gears. I have filet-ed 100's and 100's of fish with it. I have had it 3 years now. I do however replace the blades with Mister Twister 9" blades, they are much better blades than the one that come with the knife. Before I would burn up the Black and Decker knife every other month, which I still keep just for a back up.

The majority of us guides on Buchanan use a manual knife. Is actually quicker once you get the hang of it.

I burned mine up after 8 years of service. Bought a sportsman one from Academy that seems to work nice for now.

I buy an american angler from amazon 39.00 on 2nd year and I clean a lot of fish. Seems to hold up well. The black and deckers I will wear the switch out in a month. Johnny

Academy stopped selling that brand...I don't know why. I thought it was the best electric knife out. I use the American Angler MT3 Saltwater Series electric knife, all steel gears. I have filet-ed 100's and 100's of fish with it. I have had it 3 years now. I do however replace the blades with Mister Twister 9" blades, they are much better blades than the one that come with the knife. A buddy got me a Dexter fillet knife on clearance at Academy--hold an edge very well and I can fillet sandbass faster with it than an electric knife and I dont waste nearly as much meat. Hybrids are a little tougher but very do-able.

American Angler is your best choice at the moment. Make sure you use the 8" replacement shark blades with that unit. Here in a couple of months you will see an orange commercial grade American Angler come out that's bad to tha bone. I've been field testing it or a couple months now and it's smooth, quiet and fits in your hand.

Randy I would cut my hand off if the knife ran all the time. Salsa that sounds good glad when it is available. Johnny

I'm not a guide but I have used them all and American Angler has to be the best. I have two of them one of them I've had for four years now and its finally starting to wear. It cuts a lot faster too it seems like the rest of them would cut so slow.
