Kirby12 and I headed to the Beach at 3:30 AM Friday Morning. We hit the sand just before sunup. The water was trout green clear, but it was angry seas coming in, high swells and no regular patterns. The tide was extremely high and driving conditions tough.

It was apparent from the start with this much weed in the wade and first guts that lesser fishermen would have left for home. We decided to throw artificials, plastics, with the hopes that something would spy it in the 2 or 3 seconds before we hung weed. This tactic was probably the only viable method. We played run and gun stopping 8 or 10 times down to 19 miles and at least a dozen times on the way back. We were chunking our TTF flats minnows and clearing them of weed at every cast.

There were enough bites to merit the continued effort. Brian had the trout dialed in and boxed three 19, 20 and 22” with a couple of throwbacks. He also managed 2 ladyfish, one was quite large. I managed 2 throwback trout, 1 24” Jack Crevalle, 2 ladyfish, and 1 25” Red.

The seaweed on the beach was piled 1-1 ½ feet high (50/50 old and new seaweed) and on high tide is getting pulled back out into the wade and first guts. We spotted 8 or 10 rafts of new weed hundreds of yards offshore. I needed 4 wheel drive practically the whole 19 miles down and back. Mitchells Cut is inaccessible on high tide due to logs and debris blocking the road. Low tide would certainly change the driving conditions and the seaweed being pulled back out……..
We had an unique find that you can read about here birdforum.net we enjoyed the trip regardless of the tough conditions.
