Fished Fri with TxWizzard and yesterday with CreamLevelCreekKennels, Jigum and Cooters brother and have never caught so many dinks! Brushpiles, condos and docks at various depths and always the same thing. For every keeper we'd catch maybe a dozen dinks.
Right now, I'm watching Chuck on my condo with a customer and his son and they are catching a LOT of fish but, haven't seen one go in the livewell yet! Dink after dink!
Don't recall ever seeing anything quite like this before. Great news for the future. Guess we had an exceptional spawn last year but, where are all the keepers??????????????

Yup - Cedar Creek is a very healthy lake. My guess is there is just a huge amount of bait everywhere. The big fish are free to scatter and cruse open water eating to their hearts content. As time goes on, the bait will seek shelter and the big girls will start showing up on the brush, trees, and bridges again. My 2 cents.

thumb Makes perfect sense. They gotta get fat again after the spawn.

Didn't you get the memo? We caught them all when we were there a few weeks ago!!!

BTW, Your SUPPOSED to fish your brushpiles BEFORE Chuck does!...otherwise, dinks are ALL your gonna catch....seems even he has already whittled them down to dink size...hehehehehehehehe

Seriously, hate to hear you had "one of those days", we all have them from time to time, fun catch, but really aggravating when you wanting to take some fish home.

That's exactly what was happening to us the last 2 weeks. My guess was it was the males that made it back deep first. A sign that the spawn is about to wind down and they're about to come back to brush. This week it was back to normal, so expect them (the keepers) to be back in a week or so with no eggs.

little males are usually the last to leave the piles and first to return.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

I think I mentioned this in another post, but during the spring/summer transition period, crappie will suspend like no other time of the year. Bigger fish will school up and suspend with no particular structure orientation. This won't last long but it sure is fun chasing and catching 'em.

Yes, lots of dinks right now. It'll pass though. Btw we got 3 keepers from your condos and the rest were dinks.

yes we saw a bunch of 9.5 ish fish today for the 27 we kept ...
probably released at least a hundred ....
but where we were this seems to be fairly normal for us ...
last summer over brush the ratio seemed quite similar .....
i did ketch the 3 biggest fish a foot or so deeper than the average fish ,,,,,
maybe the larger fish are just a bit deeper there also ?
and or possibly suspeneded ?
we did see a fair number a suspeneded fish ....
but the shallow bite wuz ridiculous so why mess with them we and or they aint sure fish ....
maybe try sum intermediate depths ?
4 to 8 foot a water possibly ?
