Would like ideas or experiences on your anchor rigging setups. Do you trolley or have some other method? What do you use for an anchor, what type/size/length of rope do you use and how do you manage/store it. Do you use multiple anchors? Has or does anyone use a dog leash?

If you had to do yours again, would you make any changes?

I have some window sash weights I am planning on using - for my type of fishing, I don't believe I will want/need a hard anchor.

I use these for anchors. One for bow, one for stern.

Cod Weights

I use a dual dog leash system. One of the things I hated the most about anchors was the line/rope management. I wanted to set up a system that was easy and required less line/rope management.

I have 2 anchors on my yak, one for bow, one for stern. I tested it out this past Sunday on South Lake and was very pleased. Kept me from spinning and I was able to stay in one spot with ease. Very easy to deploy both anchors and secure via cleats and via dog leash lock mechanism. Rope is run thru pad eyes.

I enclosed each anchor in bicycle tire inner tubes ($4 at walmart). This is more to keep the weights from rubbing against my yak. Tie off with heavy duty zip ties to keep secure.

That is awesome gator. May need to do that on mine. I too hate dealing with my anchor line.

Good observation on pointing out the potential issues. The cord leash would be the only issue. The dog leashes only run 16 ft. I'd be limited to shallow/semi-shallow water. Anything over 20 ft of water and I wouldn't be able to use the dog leashes.

Here's the fix:

Big Game Magna Lift

These run 30 ft.

JTB, thanks for the pics, that is similar to the approach I am considering but might still do a trolley. I believe Jackson specifically designed the coosa for that approach. I agree - the big game lift looks like it solves some of the issues with the normal dog leash approach - good find.

Did you extend your leash any?

JTB, that's a neat idea for anchoring! With dual anchors, positioning is better and it sounds like less of a hassle than my trolley system. I don't really anchor that much when I fish, but I'm now thinking about your method.

Like others, I'm wondering if anyone has an idea of how to extend this to deeper water applications.

I witnessed Gator's system first hand and it is awesome. I think we all hate anchor line laying in the boat.

I did extend it a little. The dog leash cord is strong but it's a little thin. I took a thicker paracord and attached it to the dog leash rope, then attached the weight to the paracord. For a little more strength.

JR - Yes, the dual system allows me to position the boat very easily. It works perfect in 12 ft or less water. Once you feel/hear the thump of the anchor hitting the bottom, just click the dog leash to lock in your position and then secure against your cleat and you're set.

When you wanna move, just unlock the leash and pull up the anchor. Then lock and cleat again, paddle, repeat.

Yes, that's what I've seen done. I'm surprised a yak accessories mfg'r has not made a yak-specific leash - something a bit more robust with more capacity.

Maybe even a kit with some eyes to string the line though like the Coosa has designed on it.

I agree, there is money to be made from it.

Does the 3lb weight hold it good?

For mine yes. But I'm using 2 3 lb weights and it holds me perfectly. Using just 1 3 lb weight might be too light. Dunno.
