You can use a smaller motor with aluminum, but fiberglass has a nicer ride. Most fiberglass boats are nicer interior and layout as well. Check any used boat out very closely.

Look at G3 boats. Nice happy medium.

My first boat was a used 2000 Nitro. I loved it and kept for 8 years until buying a new Z7 last year. IMO the used Nitro is a good move.

Man!... with 16k you can get a pretty good deal on a fiberglass bass boat, specially if you are trying to attempt some tournaments. I believe tracker aluminum bass boats are a very good reliable boats, but for bass tournaments.... I would rather drive a good used fiberglass bass boat with a 150/200 on it, than a new tracker aluminum with a 60-75 on the back.

Good luck, and remember always to have fun, when tournament fishing stops being fun and enjoyable, it ain't worth it.

Just my 2cents smile

May the Force be with you.

I bought new Aluminum, rough on the water, can't hit top speeds because it porposes above a certain speed due to balance. Very slow compared to many other boat in tournement, they all pass me getting to the good spots. Good points, cheap on gas, I put money into electronics. If you can get a fiberglass boat with NO ISSUES and a stronger engine, go for it, but make sure you have someone who is trained completely evaluate the boat soundness and esp the engine. GL

Wait for a day when the wind is up around 15 knots and test drive the tracker or G3.

I have both and I almost never use the aluminum any more. The fiberglass just rides nicer, fishes nicer and is just a more pleasant boat. I've now moved the aluminum to the lake house so when relative need a boat they can use that one and not mine. You can pick up a good used boat even in the 20 foot range for a lot less than $16K.
