Hey guys, I've got some small trees that are starting to grow on tank damn. While I'd like to keep them there for cover (willows and cottonwood), I'm worried that the could eventually cause a problem.
What is the best way to kill the trees?
Thanks

If I can't pull them up I use Remedy.

Pulling them is the best way if you can. Willows and cottonwoods are almost as bad as mesquites when it comes to hogging moisture.
At least my boat and truck are paid for, woo hoo!

Dude...I tried pulling some tonight....and there is no pulling these up....
I'm gonna have to spray....
is remedy commonly used for this application? Any chances it will hurt the aquatic life?
I believe it on the willows and cottonwoods....the root structures on boat are massive. I gotta get them gone.

yes, Remedy is commonly used. I mix it 1:3 with diesel and spray about 16 inches of trunk. Don't miss any part of the trunk.
HOWEVER, if the root balls are massive, they can also create a problem. The GENERAL rule of thumb is to leave trees that are 4+ inches in diameter. Pulling them up means leaving a possible void and nuking them does the same thing when the roots rot.
How large are they? Have they previously been cut?

Just take a sharp machette to them...good exercise and better results.

Massive roots on a 1/2 inch diameter tree sounds like they may have been cut or mowed in the past. Have they?
Cutting it isn't killing a willow. No matter what you do to kill it, you just might create a void in the dam.

Rodeo Herbicide is made for spraying weeds and brush around lakes and ponds.
