A friend of mine wants to buy a rubber band line but I can't find him one to save my neck. If anybody sees one in a bait shop or other please advise.

Funny you should ask----There is a bait store in Waxahachie that still carries the originals. I was looking at them just last Thursday. I don't remember the price but I can get by there tomorrow afternoon if you want me to check. I know it wasn't unreasonable though.

I haven't used one for years but the basic idea is that you get an anchored (and that could be many things)end of the band out into the area where you are wanting to fish. You attach hooks and leader lines much like a trot line along the length of the band. Then bait it up. Attach the other end up on the bank some where. I remember you could tell when something was on your line and you just decided if you wanted to check it then or leave it out to possibly hook more fish. So you are dry on the bank and just pull your rubber band line in the get the fish or re-bait the line. It wouldn't be good for the monsters most of us go for but it was good for other fish and smaller catfish. I actually remember it being a lot of trouble and wouldn't recommend it from my memory. But hey--they do still exist. The rubber band line reminds me of the old school fishing Yo-Yo's, I did hear those are outlawed in Texas now but evidently they are still for sale at amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Fisher-...c+fishing+reels

My dad took me to White Rock Lake as a child and we caught lots of crappie on them. It was good times. Build a fire, bait the lines and eventually fall asleep in the back of the old station wagon.
