In the local paper here in Nacogdoches, it was reported that several large patches of giant salvenia have been located in Lake Naconiche. I am not that familiar with this plant and it's consequences. Naconiche is a small lake, under 800 acres. Is this controllable or is it a serious threat to a small lake?

Giant salvina isn't rooted to bottom. It floats, so it goes where the wind blows it. So, yes, this is a very bad deal.

I wonder who the genius was who backed into the lake with this junk all over his trailer? Irresponsible for sure.

I can't believe it happened that fast. . .and yes it's very bad, especially for a small body of water. You might be able to walk across that lake this time next year.

I read the article closer and this is what I discovered. It was first identified on April 15th by a TPWD employee, Carl Boatman. The lake manager, Bill Plunkett, is working with TPWD to rid the lake of the weed. It is assumed it was introduced to he lake by a boat trailer. The weed is a problem in Caddo and Toledo Bend. Naconiche is such a great little lake, I hate to see this happen.
