I plate NiAu (nickel-gold) on steel wire at work. This makes the wire solder ready. Coupled with the solder that melts at 95C....you can get very creative with lure construction.

Alloy has lead so it has weight to it...and shines so it can be shaped like a fish.

I can typically strip the old metal coating off brass and make it solderable for low temp as well. Final finish is gold.
