Heading to caddo Friday for the weekend. Staying on the big cypress bayou. Any suggestions on where and what to try for LMB would be greatly appreciated. Also are there any boat lanes I should avoid. This will be my second trip to caddo. I stayed at johnson ranch before and mainly fished turtle shell. Thanks in advance

We just got back from Caddo. We stayed at shady glade and will stay there again. The weather didn't help us much. We had strong south winds the first 3 days then the latest cold front moved in and the wind moved to the north and the temps dropped 40 deg. We fished mainly turtle shell but did venture to jap island and old folks playground. We caught fish everywhere we went. On the warm days we caught them on black senkos weightless in the shallowest, nastiest water we could find and most of the time they would be right up against a cypress. Seemed like they prefered trees that were clumped together. After the cold front we still caught them on weightless black senkos but they had moved out a little to 2-2.5 feet of water that was a little cleaner and seemed they preferred single trees. Biggest fish was #6 but all the fish we caught were nice fish and were pre spawn. I know this was a long reply but maybe this will help. Did I mention we used black senkos. LOL!!Water was stained around turtle shell and old folks and muddy around jap island. Good luck!!

Are there any campgrounds there that would be good for a kayak? I'm trying to make a trip. I'd love to get some footage of a gator...

Thanks for the reply tommy. This makes me feel better. I was worried with the crazy weather they would have lock jaw.

The only campsites I know of is at the state park which is a pretty good run up the bayou from the lake. Maybe someone else has a better idea about that

AggieYak you may check with Caddo Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism www.caddolake.org or City of Uncertain 903-789-3443 www.cityofuncertain.com. Potter's Point has RV and tent camping 985-381-9833 www.potterspoint.com and they would put you on the lake and in good fishing area.

Main lake is gonna suck. Ur gonna b better off fishing Jeems trust me on this. I just helped another board member out there and he caught them decent considering the crazy weather we got. Gonna rain Thursday ad temps gonna drop pretty good so it's gonna b tough. U dont need a guide to figure them out. Senko, flukes, blk neon baits 4 to 5ft have been key in Jeems. Texas side really ain't done much this year. U can pm me and I will help u

Thats the funny thing about fishing...somebody is always catching them somewhere! You sure don't want to rule out the Texas side though for big fish! Location, location, location.

Me either Mudd! I am tired of having my butt handed to me this year on Caddo. Our Classic is April 27th on Caddo but I do not have a clue of where to go or what to throw.Anywhere I have caught fish in the past years are not producing this year.

Has anyone tried punching thru some of the salvinia in the backs of shallow spawing coves? I usually think of this as more of a summer technique, but with so much vegitation around the shoreline they might be hunkering up under some of that stuff as opposed to relating to cypress trees. Just a thought.
