This weekend went out for some sunnies and bass. Used to 2lb test for the first time and i gotta say it pissed the hell out of me. anyone use 2lb test and constanly aggravated by how hard it is to tie a freakin knot??

2 lb test is way lighter then most of us use I know some guys use 4 lb but most I have heard use 6 lb 2 lb test sounds more like the leader I would use on my flyrod, 2 lb test with how thin and light it is is highly prone to tangling on cast and very easy to break as for tying knots I never have had an issue but thats just me but the type of knot you are attempting may not be very kind on that light of line if it is giving you that much pain to tie

As far as I can tell 6 lb clear mono is the lightest line I've ever used. And, if it decreases my chances to get bit, so be it. My eye sight is not as good as I've had,.....even once.....

I doubt there is any advantage to using anything less than 6 lb. test. I agree that trying to tie a Berkley knot in 2 lb that I cannot even see is the pits.

Big Bluegill are line and tackle shy. I have fished with guys who insisted on big line, snap swivels, beads and other terminal tackle, and it cut way down on their bites. But 6 lb test line is fine.

I switched all of my Sunfish tackle over to six pound test line a couple of years ago. I was using four pound and did not like the way it handled. I never used two pound. Friends of mine who have said it is a difficult line to work with. It all boils down what you want to use. For me six pound test line is the Best.

Yup. I always use 4, tried 2 and my eyes aren't good enough to tie it.

2lb test is prettly light, but does get more bites in the right situation. But, most of those situations just don't occur in TX. We just don't have fish that skittish in water that clear and conditions that tough. I have used 2lb test before and you're right, there is often a problem with the knot. Trying to secure a knot on 2lb test is a tricky deal. The knots are already the weakest point of the line and when you add in that 2lb test is almost sewing thread, it just doesn't make it worth the hassle. You have to tie certain knots just to make them secure, and you have to tie those knots a certain way. Just too much headache.

When I'm fishing mono for bream, I use 4lb and 6lb test. I try to use 6lb as much as I can, but there are times when the number and size you catch on 4lb is just much better than 6lb. Using artificials almost exclusively, that extra fraction of thin diameter can make a huge difference in what the fish can see and at times more importantly, the speed a lure can fall and the extra action that lighter line can add. Some lures can have their action some what killed with 6lb test as opposed to 4lb. I didn't believe it till I saw it myself. I've had some big bream break 4lb test at the knot and switched to 6lb and not get near as many bites. Switched back to 4lb, cut off a 3' section in hopes to get rid of what might be a bad section of line, REALLY lube the knot and snug down gently and that normally solves the prob.

Love both 2lb and 4lb test. I agree that 2lb test can be more of a headache.

According to sources for 2lb thest the largest recorded fish caught on it was a 50lb 9oz Striper that took an hour and 20 mins to land
