I went out on good Friday and could catch any shad to save my life. I was just wondering if anyone knew where to catch some. I launched at masons point and tried all around there and south shore boat ramp. I did catch a bunch of eater off Big Marv’s but need some shad for the big ones.
Thinking about going back Saturday so any help would be great
Thanks

I usually get my shad at Calaveras before going down to Choke. But, we have caught shad at the ramp in Caliham (SP?) park. Gotta get there before the sun comes up.

I fish Choke all the time, I have a trailer down there. The only place I can catch shad is in the southeast area of the dam right up close to the rip-rap. The bad news is I don't catch any, even there most of the time. Just once in a while. I have been using Big Marvs for about 20 years, I catch lots of 1 to 5 pounders on it. For bigger fish I use cut carp I catch on Wheaties and Big Red.
In the beginning there were fish in the waters and birds in the sky, and it was good. And then there were fishing rods and shotguns, and it was very good.

Starting about 3 years ago I started catching tilapia on the Callahan boat ramp, I bet that's where they came from too.

That would be breaking the law because tilapia have to be gutted before leaving the lake. But there probably are people that do it.

I was not able to go either. I have talked to some people who told me to fish an area called "the jugs". Does anyone know where this is? Thanks
