Another memorable day on the river. Pretty much the perfect setup weather wise and I anticipated the fish would be biting. They were and I was real fortunate to land some real nice fish. I lost count of the largemouth, the largest was 22". I caught several nice drum, a small blue cat, a few spotted bass, a 16" smallmouth, and the 41" flathead. I was really lucky to land the flathead. I've been having them break me off, straighten hooks, or just come off. It was real touch and go with this one several times as he would dive under boulders and logs jammed against them. I don't know how my rod survived. Several times the fish would lunge and since I had the drag pretty snug it would get pinned on the gunnel and bend at a scary arc. The pics aren't very good, but I wasn't wanting to take the time to get them perfect.

That's awesome you don't hear, very often in freshwater, of people catch 5 different species in one day. Congrats.

The Brazos, but if your looking for smallies I'm thinking you'll be disappointed. I'm certainly no expert on them, but I've not found them to be very common. While I do catch small 10"-12" ones here and there, I've not caught many much larger with any consistency. They are there, but IME they are few and far between.

Very nice. Was on the river Saturday but was much slower for me. The middle Brazos has some what of a reputation for smallies but I've caught more on the upper. You can still find some nice ones on occasion but its not what it once was.

WOW!!! What a haul!
