Fellas, I know there is a trolling motor expert out there that can help me figure out what to do.

Yesterday I was fishing and after about three hours my inline fuse triggered. I tried to reset and it would not.

My set up includes a 52 Lb Brute Motor Guide that is 9 yrs old, and a brand new 12 volt Everstart 95 battery.

After trying to reset the fuse, I got the bright idea that maybe the fuse went bad and tried to direct wire and had a fireworks show when I reconnected the cord to the battery.

How do I diagnose the problem? Is it time for a new trolling motor? What do you all think???

May have got water in motor and shorted out armature if so time for a new one might also pull pull top cover and check for any wires going down through shaft that may have wore through and bare wires touching metal causing a direct short.

Sounds like the fuse (breaker?) was doing what it was intended to do; likely a short in the motor somewhere. I suspect the best bet would be to take it to a shop where they have the equipment and ability to diagnose the problem. Depending on the outcome of that should answer your question about new!

Perhaps they would even forgive any charges for the diagnosis if you purchased new from them - wouldn't hurt to ask!

C.

Thanks for the input, I can not complain I got my moneys worth out of that motor and the breaker too. Time to get a new one.
