I have always been observant on when to fuel up and where good prices are. What are some of your tips for not only saving fuel to get better gas mileage on your rig, but tips to saving gas at the pump? Shell offers a Kroger Plus card to save per gallon, who else has tips or ideas to help save money on fuel? It always seems to be the biggest expense.

Murphy at Walmarts has a discount also if you use a walmart gift card.

Also enter your zip code on this site and it pulls up a map and list of the current prices in your area. has been accurate for us so far.

Look up the technical service bulletin on your motor. You might be able to find a chart that shows the best fuel mileage in relation to RPM. Using that as a reference point will be a good start.

And, just like when trying to save fuel when driving your vehicle, don't throw the throttle down with every start off. And try to maintain a steady speed. Working that throttle back and forth from 100% to 10% is not going to help.

I learned from fishing in a kayak to pick your fishing spots as close to the launch as possible. When I take the big boat out I started doing the same. I run it enough to keep the gas fresh and the carbs happy.

1) Don't put fuel in the boat until you are closer the lake, that way you aren't pulling the extra weight.

2) Unless you have to dont fill the boat all the way up, again pulling less weight on the way back.

I rarely have my boat full.

In addition to what's been mentioned, I always try to plan my trip based on what pattern/time of year it is.. and then find a ramp that's closest to where I'm planning to fish. No sense in putting in at a ramp that's 4 miles away from where I plan to fish. For instance, Lake Fork... if you're planning to fish Glade, put in at the 515 ramp on the EAST side of Fork to avoid traveling all the way from Lake Fork Marina or the hwy 17 public ramp. Save not only on gas, but oil too.

I use a BOFA rewards card. 3% at $3.50/gallon is $10.5. WM is only 1%. Best way to save fuel is to drive like you have a raw egg between your foot and the pedal. Braking wastes a lot of gas too. Anticipate slowdowns and coast. Don't fall for gadgets none of them pay off. A dirty air filter will lower your power but not MPG. Bad spark on the other hand will have a negative impact on MPGs. With the price of air filters these days I blow mine out at each oil change and they last longer.

I fuel up at costco with my costco card and get a discount but it helps that I have one right by the house.

I'd rather run in the boat than my truck. Once I launch, I don't have far to go, then it's battery power

If you have a iPhone or Android, download "Poynt" app. It uses the locator to find gas prices in the area your at.

buy it where its cheapest, pulling a full or half full tank in the boat will make no difference, wind resistance is what kills your mileage.

mine gets gas before I leave everytime, don't have to stop on the way, carry oil (I premix), search for real gas (local loves has it in premium). for me its a convenience factor over a few cents a gallon in price that matters, I can do everything the day before then just go fish.

run some seafoam every couple of tanks to keep things clean and working good in the fuel system, new inline filter couple of times a yr and something I noticed is when I switched to full synthetic oil my fuel consumption went down a little (think its due to easier burn).

there is the OKIES 2 cents worth.
