Looking to bring the wife down to the coast from DFW for a weekend fishing trip for our 17th wedding anniversary the first weekend in May. We don't get the opportunity to fish very often but it is one of her favorite things to do! Yep, I found a good one.... I'm looking for somewhere along the coast that I can haul my boat down (20x60 aluminum dual mud motor rig), hire a guide for a 1/2 day to show us the area and then fish for a few days more. Would like to go to a clean, safe area with a good choice of restaurants in the evening. I would like to target reds and specs. Suggestions on area/guides? Thanks in advance.

Port O'Connor TX is clean and safe and 'coveted secret' for reds and trout for a lot of people. It would also be a perfect spot for your dual-motor dilly-whopper. Choice of restaurants? Lesee...how about three!?? One good mexican with over sized plates, on good american with oversized plates, and a couple of BBQ or burger stand options! Port O'connor or Seadrift, & launch at Charlies Bait Camp. Good eateries in seadrift-- Bubbas, Barketts, 2 good mexican. Bunch of guides, lodging.
Dryberry was the last lake God created, and it took the entire seventh day.

It's fair on the little jetties on the ICW but Boggy Bayou north of town from 3rd st is great when there is little pressure. Its a little lake with some shell...shell is good. I'm really hungry now so I am daydreaming about one of Josie's HUGE plates of enchiladas.

I'm going to suggest Port Aransas. Probably our most upscale "resort" type town that has some decent fishing. First week in May should still be before the summer crowds show up. Some nice places to stay and to eat. It's fairly easy to get around in the bay and there is always the beach.

I've always had the best luck at Rockport. Don't get down there alot but the fishing is great

There's no fish left in Seadrift or POC. Sorry guys it's deserted. And for sure there isn't anything when you go out of charlies and head to the back lakes, might as well call them dead seas.
