I currently have a 1994 Evinrude 2 stroke and have been running a basic E/J oil that I could buy at Walmart. I am thinking of going to the XD 50. Is that a good oil for this engine? Also, I was thinking I would need to drain the old stuff and start from SCratch. Thanks for your help!

I'm sure it's a fine lubricant, but your throwing your money away. Keep doing what your doing and run ring free/sea foam. Or if you want to switch to a blend, penzoil is about $15 cheaper.

I switched to pennzoil full synthetic in my 82 johnson 175 then kept using it in the 96 175 I now have, decarb the engine before changing to synthetic and just use pennzoil full syn.
it made a good difference in the 82 and the 96 runs super clean with it.

Thanks for the posts. I might just stick with what i have been using. Boat runs great as it is but just wanted to see if another oil might help at all.

You running the VRO still or do you PreMix your fuel?

If you premix I dont see a reason to drain anything, we have mixed different oils many times premix with no issues. We have been running penzoil blend for a long time in a '85 evinrude, never a complain and I dont even want to know how many hours are on it.

I would not use it in a boat for anything, you get what you pay for. I have used it in chainsaws and weedeaters and it worked good, just smoked a LOT.
