My Mom's. But it would take too long to type out the instructions

1 c. sugar 3 T cornstarch 1/4 t salt Slowly whisk in 3 cups of whole milk - the richer the better - over low heat. Add in 4 large egg yolks, and 3 tablespoons real butter. Stir this CONSTANTLY over medium heat, making sure to keep the bottom and the sides of the pan very well scraped. Cornstarch doesn't thicken like flour, it'll thicken up closest to the heat while being water on top. When it starts thickening up, turn the heat way down and stand there and stir slowly. DO NOT step away from this for a second. It'll burn on you faster than you can blink. Stir while scraping the bottom and sides of the pan until it thickens then remove from the heat. Add a teaspoon and a half vanilla and stir in well. Have yourself large serving bowl absolutely lined with vanilla wafers. Spoon some pudding over that to just hold them in place, add a layer of banana slices, more pudding, vanilla wafers, pudding, bananas, and so forth until you fill your serving dish. When done, cover with plastic wrap that's touching the pudding. Chill and serve cold with gobs of whipped cream.

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

My aunt makes it and folds sweetened whipped cream into the pudding, so it's a little lighter. I really like it like that. I think it's about a 1:1 ratio, pudding to whipped cream. It makes it almost mousse like. It's the best I've had.

Tis the season. Some people require this for thanksgiving. I prefer it with barbecue.
