Want to get some feedback on what lights are most effective. plan on using them mainly around bridge pilings.

Due to the heat I am going to try fishing at night. catfish mainly but thought a light under boat may be fun to catch some sand bass.

If you put lights in please have someone licensed to help install them correctly. There have been a couple electrocution deaths on LOZ recently, most likely due to improper electrical installation on docks.

Sorry about the confusion. 12v light to drop over side of boat to attract bait fish.

if you are wanting a good mixture of lights for night fishing, usually two whites, and one green. although many around here in the ozarks are going to all green.

Fished over green lights at the coast but never in freshwater. thanks for the info. I wondered if a mix of lights would help attrract more bait. should the green light be deeper or at the same depth?

Find the White light to drop. It seems to be better than the green ones. Good-Luck.

Take a look at a Super Nova, they are awesome, Dez also does some great work on additional lights for your boat, which come in handy especially at night. I have the additional LED navigation lights on my boat and the green side always attracts bait fish. JR http://www.supernovafishinglights.com/

I have purchased 2 super n"s from Dez. Havent used them much yet but can't wait to take them to the coast. I can tell you this so far, they DO attract bait.

I've done very well with the 18" Green Light available at Academy.
Very Bright. Hard to put enough weight on it to sink it, but can be done.
Fish the edges of the light.

Hello,
We are currently developing Our Kayak and standard fishing light kits. Let me fill you in on some of the information we have gathered through our product research and development.
Light Color- This is the starting point and the question is always white or green? The answer in short is GREEN!!! Any light is good but light doesnt attract baitfish or even game fish. The light is actually attracting the phytoplankton in the water. As the phytoplankton gather around the light the bait fish start to concentrate to feed on the high quantities of phytoplankton. The game fish eventually find the bait fish and start to feed on them. White light doesnt penetrate the water as far as green and it wont create as high of a concentration of phytoplankton, now this isnt to say that white lights on a dock isnt going to produce, especially after they have been there a while and especially if you are feeding the fish regularly. After a period of time it just becomes a buffet!!! Again, green would do the same thing with better results.
Light position- The main question here is under water or floating? I have seen guys mixing the floating white with the underwater green but from our research the white isnt doing anything that a green light with the same output couldnt do better. However we do agree that a floating light with a sunken light is best suited for fishing from a boat or kayak, if a floating light isnt available a second sunken light is a good option but it adds another cord under water for you to get hung up in. From your dock its best to have two greens underwater. This leaves lots of light and nothing floating around to get tangled up in.
Light Intensity- The intensity of the bulbs is often highly inflated most bulbs are new generation LED's I would want the brightest bulb possible without running the risk of it getting too hot or being exposed to the elements.
I have my best results when I chum the area and setup the lights before dark and then come back and turn on the lights and then I back off and fish the edges of the light where large fish lurk while waiting to zoom in and attack something. I use a floating cooler to hold the battery and to anchor the light with. If you need any more info feel free to contact me.
Sincerely, Alex R.
