Hey guys, can you help out a TX boy who was recently exiled to Boston? I usually fish saltwater but have caught more than a few carp back home so I'm not a complete newbie. There is a 4-5 acre pond right across the street from my apt that has hundreds if not thousands of 10-15lb carp in it. I have caught 6-7 in the last few days but I can't get into a consistent pattern never getting more than 2 in a session. I have caught then on corn, bran flakes doughballs, and worms both on the bottom and with a float. The frustrating part is I can see tons of fish swimming along the surface. I have tried to bait them with bread but have never gotten them interested; they sometimes swim right under it without ever mouthing the bread. I started fishing with my baits a foot under a small float and caught a couple but still haven't found anything they will hit consistently. Any suggestions? It is frustrating to see so many fish without being able to interest them much less catch them. I haven't seen many people fishing the pond so I don't think it gets a lot of pressure but i could be wrong. Thanks in advance for any help.

When you see them feeding on top free line som bread in their area and see what happens.

It can be frustrating, I know, but they wont eat when they are not hungry.

Try different times of the day or check the solunar calendar for major feeding times.

Also, you may want to chum the area for a day or 2 to get them concentrated in one small area and dropyour line right on top of where you chummed.

A couple fish out a pond is actualy pretty good.

I would hit them in the early morning or evenings this time of year and try a lot of different baits. Boiled maize, flavored maize, artificial maize would be my first picks for pond carp. I also agree with Ted, bait out a small area. Maybe range cubes or boiled maize. If you get them feeding the water will muddy up.

How clear is the water?

Try throwing fruitloops cereal on the surface. If they come to feed, be stealthy, and put 1 on the hook and throw it out. Down here they like fruit loops.

fruit loops, i like it. i'll give it a try but i have tossed out several loaves of bread without ever getting them to feed on it. as for clarity; the pond is murky, maybe a foot of visibility and yet i can still see hundreds of fish swimming around, also there is a soft mucky bottom with lots of leaves and other [censored] down there. is it possible they can't find my bait with all the muck?

lately they have been chasing each other all over the surface making huge commotions all over the place especially in a couple of very shallow pockets. are they spawning? and if so do they become lock-jawed during the spawn?

Seems a little late for the spawn to me, but if they are they can still be caught. It can be a little tricky but can still be managed.

I like 10mm popups and artificial corn when fishing over muck and [censored].

Thanks guys, gonna give it another shot this evening, corn, fruit loops, worms, doughballs, the works; as for the spawn, remember this is Boston (place really suukks for a TX boy, incredibly rude people), I can still see bass on beds in this and other ponds around here.

Late for spawning for us, but I think he said the pond was in Boston Mass. Yankee fish for sure..

if you are in Boston then it is possible they could be spawning.

the weather is a bit diferent up there so i imagine spawning could deffinatly be happening right now. i wouldnt even bother if they are spawning right now, but once they're done, they're gonna be hungry!

and if that pond is right across the street then you have no excuse not to bait a specific spot on that pond every day. get them used to feeding in that area and keep them coming back day after day. it'll become instinct to visit that spot every day looking for food, and you'll be there, with a hook.....
