(I posted this in the boats and motors section also but, this spot has more traffic.) I have a question (Prob. a dumb one) about these little fishing machines. A neighbor down the street has a 10' "Bass Buster" type boat and is willing to sell it to me for cheap. Pretty sure it's not stolen. Asked about a title and he said no title. Would I have problems trying to register and tag? Thanks Tff'ers!

Titles can be a real pain. Was it ever registered in his name? If not can he contact who he got it from if they have a title? You can do an owned skip but there has to be a registered owner somewhere. You can also apply for an abandoned boat title but it takes over 6 months to process if they allow it at all.

If he is not the original title holder, yes you will have issues registering it. I bought a john boat under the same circumstances in 2010.. just sold it 3 weeks ago without ever putting it in the water after going round and round trying to track down the original owners who were not willing to return any forms signed releasing it to me even with the bill of sale, etc from the person they sold it to (who never registered it himself). I wouldn't get it unless you plan to put it in private waters only where you don't have to worry about registration.

Thanks for the reponses. I used to have a old Ray-Craft that I bought from my dad and had to sell it last year. Just looking for something to get back on the water by myself.

Do you plan on putting a small outboard or trolling motor on it?....If so, it has to be registered to be legal on public waters and buying without a title will be a problem when it comes to registering. If you plan on paddling it or using it on private water you don't need to bother registering it.

Yep, I kinda figured after I asked about the title, my gut told me no. No way in Hades I'm paddling a Bass Buster.

Did you catch anything?? Paddling busters is not too bad IF you have two men and two paddles. One man or one paddle forget about it.
