My Revo Winch has started grinding again! I bought it in September of last year, and it started making a grinding noise in early October. I sent it to Abu Garcia and they repaired it at no cost. It has now started grinding again!
This is a great crankbait reel, but I am pretty unhappy with this grinding noise, which also causes the reel to bind slightly. I'm starting to think my two hundred bucks could have gone to a couple of cheaper reels. My BPS Rick Clunn and Shimano Caenan were each less than ninety bucks, are older, and work better than my Revo Winch!
Thoughts? Send it back to get repaired? See if I can get my money back?

It's the normal Winch. I cleaned it last night and I'm going to use it again today, so we'll see how it goes.

Do you keep your drags winched down all the way? If so you can warp the main gear and cause gear grind. Always back them off when not in use. Too many people fish their drags too tight anyhow and don't use them as they are designed. IF there was NO slip intended they would use direct drive with no slip at all. Akin to removing the clutch from a manual transmission.

I do not keep the drag all of the way down. I use it for crankbaits and I have only ten to twelve pound spooled, so I use the drag. I used it yesterday with no problems. We'll see how today goes. Thanks for your help!

billclay I assume that you also oiled the spool bearings when you cleaned the reel. Sometimes oil will stop bearing noise but not for long. If the grinding starts again take most of the cotton off of a Q-tip and put it in the spool bearings and rotate it.
This is a quick way to feel for a bad bearing. Sometimes bearings just don't last very long and go bad for no reason. To me it is amazing that bearings this small can be made and last as long as they do. Good luck in finding your problem.
