So I picked up my (used but new to me) Starcraft V170. The decking on it is in OK condition with the expection of Live well lids, Bilge lid and hinges. The carpet however is toast and even though it will fish - I would like to replace it.
One recurring issue I have seen with older boats and with mine is that PO's never get the hinges right when refurbinb or maintaining the decking. Usually they screwed into plywood and strip right out when put under load. My boat has surface mount hinges that have the scews stripped out of the decking. What is the best hinge and what is the proper way to install them so they handle the load of being USED normally and walked on? The wood screw method doesnt seem to work and I would like to get it right the first time.
Also - I get the general idea of how to install carpet but I would like to see a video tutorial so as to better understand how to do corners and edges etc so that is looks professional. Does anyone have a link to a video or thread that covers this?
I am really pleased with my boat and trailor so far - It just needs a face lift.

Go to: bassboatcentral.com and go to the boat restoration section. There is all the info you need there. Good luck!

Anybody have any insight on hinges? Surely there a few posters that are either professionals at this or have some advice.
