I've recently taken up fishing from a kayak and Lake Waco has been a real challenge for me the last year. Obviously, I cover much less water in a kayak, but I do have the opportunity to really pick a spot apart and catch some fish that others miss.

I'm curious if any one could give me some advice on a good place to put in at Waco and have access to promising fishing areas without paddling for miles.

Lately I've been putting near Woodway Park I (next to the Midway park ramp), but haven't had much luck. Have y'all had luck in the past in this area?

Thanks!

Try putting in at Speegleville and fishing the marina or the creek. You will be in much more productive water.

I also fish out of a kayak on waco. I have been having pretty good luck around airport park. Have done pretty well around midway park in the past fishin toward the ridgewood marina. Another place you might want to give a try is Tradinghouse out off of highway 6 in the riesel hallsburg area. i have had some amazing days out there lately.

Good luck and let us know how you do thumb

Thanks! I was just talking with another friend about going out towards the Ridgewood Marina.

Went out to Tradinghouse during the winter to check it out when the water was way down. Do you put in at the ramp? I was trying to find a spot closer to the riprap along the farside of the lake but didn't see anywhere outside the ramp to put in.

Thanks!

We have always put in at the ramp and fished all the way to the dam. Once you get to the dam there is plenty of rip rap to fish and it has always been very productive. We also fish the cat-tails on the way and have caught a ton of fish out of those. With the lake back up and the cat-tails in the water it has been on fire!

Try Flat Rock ramp off of Yankee rd. There is some good fishing and you will be in the stuff you like right when you get in your boat

Thanks y'all. Put in with a friend early this morning at McLauchlin Rd (sp?) near the creek. It was very windy. Primarily fished a Rattlesnake T-rigged and a Baby Rattlesnake on a C-rig though I did fish some topwater this morning.

Didn't get as much as a bite. Got blown around a good bit. Spoke to quite a few guys in bass boats and they hadn't had any luck either. Man do I struggle on Lake Waco...might have to give Tradinghouse a try but if I get skunked there too I may have to accept my inadequacies as an angler smile

I think the Waco would be on fire if somebody could figure out the Janet Reno pattern. eeks

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know when to go fishing.

It's been almost a month, but flip the boat slips in both Ridgewood (Bushwood) and Speegleville...even first thing in the morning, resist the urge to throw the topwater...

Tradinghouse is the better bet of the two right now...both from what I've heard and personal experience...
