I am working a scout camp off the brazos this summer and I am having trouble figuring out how to bait this area for catfish because the bait won't stay if I just throw it out. Do any of you have any better ideas for trying to pull the fish in.

Get some toe sacks, put the chum in them, and tie them out a little upstream from where you are fishing.

When I take the kids fishing at the "Secret Sandbar" on the Neches, I bring along an old floating fish basket and a few cans of 3/$1 jack mackerel. Just poke a hole or two in one of the cans, toss it in the basket and tie/ anchor it on the upstream end of the sandbar. I usually add another can every 2 or 3 hours depending on how long I plan to stay.

Thanks for the info. What would be about the least amount of time to keep things soured grain and milo and range cubes. Will I have to make a new batch every week or could i use it for consecutive weeks. Also when using this chum what would be the best bait to use. Also what kind of corn should be used if mixing with milo?

5 gallon bucket with holes around the bottom
tie to a stump and put bout 1 ft off the bottom
fill with range cube

If I understand you correctly you are wanting to make a honey hole you can use all summer long, right?

I would look for the right location. If you can find an undercut bank you can keep baited out and access for fishing, then you are golden. If you cannot find an undercut, then look for an outer bend in the river with some sort of structure, like rocks.
If you can find a place where the river goes from fairly shallow to drop off downsteam then that drop off is another great place to bait out.

Also any kind of inlet where you see the water eddying is a good spot too.
