I had last Friday off, so I decided to finally get the tube out to these little lakes. I fished the smaller, upper lake first. It is about 15 acres, and it is full of hydrilla, surrounding the entire lake and covering the upper end. It took a couple of hours, but my partner and I finally caught a few really nice fish, weighing from 3.0 to 7 pounds. They came on jerkbaits, watermelon Senkos and alewife Fin-S Fish, dropped into holes and pockets in the hydrilla. We switched to the lower lake for a couple of hours. It is larger, about 25 acres or so. We didn't do as well, but managed a few small ones.

These lakes are full of good bass, with a 13+ coming out last spring. Rumor has it that the city is planning on using chemicals to reduce/eradicate the hydrilla next year. I hope not. If so, you might want to get out there ASAP and check them out. To get there, just take 287 into Palestine from Corsicana. Just after 287 joins up with 19, look for Upper Lake (Upper Pond?) Road on your right. It will be just before you reach the Loop. The lakes will be on your left, with the upper one first. The scenery is beautiful, and the fall foliage is just getting started. The greatness of the fall bass frenzy should be under way soon, too. Give me a holler if you need a partner!

By the way, boats are allowed, but, especially on the upper lake, the hydrilla is so thick that a kayak or johnboat would be advisable. The lakes are idle speed only.
