then an ultra light rod and reel, as i want to go to my bluegill hole and have a ton of fun, but more importantly get my girlfriend hooked on fishing hahahaha, or i could always spool up the ultra light with 4lb line or 2lb line and make her play them down hahahaha

Ice fishing rod. super ultra light. 24 inches long and catchin a nice crappie or bluegill on it will bend that little rod almost double. They have them at Dicks for $14.99. Academy has some too. I use on at the slip crappie fishin. Loads of fun.

The lightest rod/reel I have found is an old Quantum Quantum MS-54SUL, 4'5", they fall into the 'SUL' or Super Ultralight Category. Nowadays you can't find SUL poles that aren't intended for ice fishing - or at least I can't.
The Quantum MS-54SUL is a solid core graphite core pole which has long since ceased production.
I had to send it to a rod maker to redo the handle and reel seat.
The rod builder made me a replica, which cost me $160, but it's still a bit heavier than this SUL.
I realize you're question isn't a search for technical info, but if ANYONE has an old Quantum MS-54SUL laying around - contact me ASAP. I'll take it off your hands for a pretty penny.

thanks for the advice and urban i love using a light weight like 3 or less for bluegill and crappy and bass but it would take a whole lot of time to teach my girlfriend how to use one and i still dont know how to use one i just use it like a cane pole or pull line out and whip it back and forth to only get hung up in grass or a tree, but with a regular fishing rod i can actually hold her hand and teach her the motions of how to cast

If she's that new to fishing why would you want anything smaller than Ultralight? She probably needs gear thats somewhat forgiving (and not as breakable).

Cool, I didn;t mean to sound belittleing. I use a 5' Ugly stick and a 4'8" Shakespear Microspin with Tiny Deadbolt reels and 4 lb line. I've tried 2lb line and frankly it's so fine I can barely se it well enough to tie knots.

A good sensitive UL graphite rod with 4lb test will get her hooked. Feel every little flick of the tail and have serious doubt if you'll land the fish. Makes for a great battle won and battle memory. Bigger size bream is always a plus too. Makes the experience on the UL even better.

I use on at the slip crappie fishin. Loads of fun. I don't know if they have any left, but I picked up an ice rod off of the Cabela's website a month or so ago on clearance for under $5.
This might be the weirdest, most pointless post ever. I am not against golf, since I cannot but suspect it keeps armies of the unworthy from discovering fishing

I have to agree with Jagg. My boys and i use Quantum 4'6"-5' rods with ultra light spinning Tiny Bolt reels. You can get the rod and reel at Academy for under $40, We all use 2lb-4lb test line and have a blast. We use lures 99% of time while fishing for sunnies, but i know she will be able to catch some on live worms and Berkeley products. I have also been looking for a couple of new rod/reel combos but have not made a final decision yet. Good look hope this helps some.

wal-mart has little rod and reel combos for sale at 10 bucks a piece. I am talking 2 ft combos. Both spinning and spincast models. I can not rememember the make. Thier web site has them for looking , but the stores have them also.
May the Good Lord bless you with a bend in your rod.
