So this weekend i went to Choke to do some bank fishing on Saturday. As i began to walk up to my fishing sport ( the cove area in Callihan where the boeys are) as i get about half way down to my spot i spot the enormous gator in the shallows just hanging out. As i proceed past it, it begans to follow me ( it was around 50-60 yards away). So i stop and turn around to look at it and it stops as well. so i began fishing in my spot with a constant eye on this big fellla!!! After about an hour it begans to creep toward the middle of the lake as if it was about to take off the deep and head away. I was fishing with one rod in my hand ( artificial) and i had one pole with a cork on in the water. As the Beast gets about even with me it turns and makes a V line towards me. as it got closer i decided i should take my pole with the cork on it out of the water. As i began to move the pole the Gator surged toward it and bit it. My line started to tighten so luckily i had my pliers in my back pocket and cut the line quickly before my pole got pulled in the water. This Beast was at least 12 feet long, never did see the tail could of been longer. i truel believe if i would have reeled my pole all the way to the bank it would have come on the bank to get it. Thats one of the craziest momments of my life!!!

I guess you missed the warning signs, and the notices that it's alligator nesting season, and that they are more aggressive now than normal.

Those gators see people all the time, and who knows how many people throw dead fish or other food at them just for entertainment value.

They probably also have feasted on some stringers of fish left out on the banks a few times also.

I'm afraid that sooner or later there will be an incident and then there will have to be some action taken.

I say leave them alone and they will leave you alone, but I'm afraid that doesn't always happen, and they do become aggressive during the mating season so with that thrown into the mix, it's best to be even more cautious.

+1 people cant leave well enough alone (not refering to OP) feeding the gators is just asking for trouble. Hope it don't happen, but it probably will.....

That would have been a good video. You could have been a web sensation. Glad all is well though. Did you do any good fishing?

Wow....yeah I usually put the boat facing in the other direction if I see one. I don't want to become one of the stories on "When animals attack".

I was down there this weekend as well running drop lines and I had an 11/0 tuna hook straightend out. I figured I caught a cat and then a gator came along and took the bait. I'm glad he was gone when I got there.
