Question is, how do I get more speed? I have the 150 ProXS engine. Tourny load all the time. Right now it will run about 57-59 depending on the water conditions. Current RPM is about 5700. All stock setup. No jack plate. I have a 25p Trophy plus 4 blade that I just tossed on to see what it will do. Stock is a 24p.
I have been told that a jackplate really doesnt help much. Anyone with any news or info on getting this boat faster short of a 200hp engine?

a plate will help. on that boat a plate could hurt the holeshot, just a little. however with a plate and some prop tuning you'll get alot better performance.
should be able to turn a 24p tempest and run 61-63

Thanks Steve. I thought a plate could help myself. The holeshot is already great on these boats so losing a little of that isnt a worry for me. I'm just wanting more speed. I had a 95 2000TF with a 200 on it. 25p and 6" plate ran about 67. But it was a much heavier boat.
I'm going to see what this Trophy 25p will do for it. It should keep the holeshot being a 4 blade I think and maybe a bit more speed. I dont know if it will hurt and lose rpm though. I already had it in the garage so its not costing me anything to try it. Ive been told by a local Mercury tech that this prop had some nice work done to it. It was on my 95 when I bought it. Went to a 3 blade on that boat and picked up top end.
I would love for this boat to run over 65. I just havent seen anywhere that this is going to happen though.
Current prop is a Tempest 24p 3 blade. Came on the engine.

65 with a Nitro and a 150 horse motor seems unlikely to me.

Yea I know but I want to try. I gained about 6 mph on the old boat with the prop and plate change. I was told that the 200 engine wasnt being put on the Z7 any longer and the 150 was the engine for them. All due to chime walk at higher speeds. So I didnt know I could still option the 200 by the way he had said it. Or I would have to get the speed I wanted. I even stressed to him that speed was a concern of mine on the 7.
Had a tourny this last saturday and made a 30 mile run to my start spot. Sue made me miss the higher mph. Plus I dont like to get passed on the water knowing that some people have the same spots.

I feel your pain man. I don't blame you for trying to get the extra mph. I'm just saying that 65 seemed like really high hopes. Let us know the results after you've tested out the other prop and possibly added a jackplate.

Johnny a lot of guys are running 23p Tempests on the Z7 with a 150. I have seen them talking 61-63 with a light load. Not sure you can get 65 with the 150.
And a 25, that is a lot of prop on the 150.
I run a 24p Tempest on my 2008 Z7 and a 24p Trophy Plus I got from Steve.

Something for you to check. #1 Forgot to mention to you , that i do have a 10" jack plate. #2 Check your Hotfoot if you have one. Sometimes the riggers do not have them adjusted properly, and the throttle cable going back to your motor doesnt open fully. Easily fixable if this is your issue. Hope it works for you.

Yea, the stock prop is a Tempest 24p. I dont have a hotfoot or jackplate. Ive been thinking about the jack plate option. It helped my old Nitro.
I will however check the throttle cable to make sure it is going wide open. I run right at 5700 WOT. Honestly to me it seems that the trim needs to travel a bit farther before it stops. Already asked the dealer to check this out and they said it was fine and that the trim system has stops preset so you can overtrim at speed. I would love to disengage that [censored].

ok, The 25p 4 blade was [censored].. Dropped to 5600 rpm and ran about 57-58 which is a 2-3 mph loss.
