Right now you can catch them consistently by shallow cranking and throwing smaller plastics on a T rig. Just start running points in either the river or main lake and go from there. Bridgeport is what I call a numbers lake and this time of year you can catch a ton. Early and late you will see a good topwater bite at times. The lake has a ton of fish and usually can get them all over the lake. If you like power fishing and stained water the river is a good bet, if you want to fish a bit smaller then the main lake is great though now it is still stained but will be clearing up daily. I used to downsize a lot out there but these days I throw the same baits and line sizes as I do in East Texas. I catch the same amount but average size is usually better. The big fish stay mixed in with the runts so again its all a numbers game out there. the lake fishes and lays out honest. Easy to navigate and easy to fish. If you get a little wind the fish will stay on the points all day and shallow bite is great. If it calms down the docks and other cover is a great bet. Best advice I can give is to keep moving till you get some feedback. I would not stay in a spot out there more than 10 minutes or so with no bites. Also never rule out the deeper docks even if you find a consistent shallow bite as the fish will suspend on them more than you realize. Especially the larger spots which are like gold with the slot if fishing a tournament. Main lake will have a better smallmouth bite especially the east side. River will get you more largemouth bites usually and sometimes a better quality. Sounds crazy but there are no bad areas to fish out there.

Mark knows Bridgeport so go with his advice. My experience on that lake is much less but my observations are about the same. You should be finding a very good bite on points now as the shad spawn should be taking place. Be sure to throw downsized spinnerbait blades and make sure your bait it landing as close to shore as possible if you see the shad up there. We fished a tourney there a couple of years ago when the shad spawn was on and oddle enough a lot of people struggled while my partner and I caught well over 60 fish. Granted, most were small but we did manage a couple of smallies in the 3 lb range and 1 "over" largemouth. Others were throwing spinnerbaits but I could see that they were landing their baits 3-4 ft from shore which was behind the fish. Most of our bites came on the 1st or 2nd crank of the reel and we were intentionally landing our spinnerbait (3/16 oz) on the shore. IF we missed a bite, we would toss right back with a tube and it accounted for 1 of the smallies. Also look for willow bushes, they really seem to stack up in those, especially if they are on the mainlake and there's a little wind blowing into them. Bridgeport is definitely a numbers game but it can surprise you with a good one now and then. Good luck

Fished it last Sat. late afternoon only got a couple of hours in.
Fished off a point going into the main lake. I was throwing a fluke and my bud a small crankbait. Think we ended up with eight nothing very big did get a smallie around a pound or so. That lake is full of bass, you should have a good numbers day for sure.

Thats some good advice. I fished last Friday morning and you had to darn near throw your bait in dirt to get bit. Hope to be able to go again this weekend.

Thanks for the tips, went out yesterday and the advice y'all gave was right on the money. Nobody said how good the catfish bite was on crank baits, had 3 big channel cats nail my crank bait up in the shallow water. Thanks again.
