RESULTS:

We had a decent turn-out, 13 teams, I have a feeling the wind kept a few home and the holiday weekend I'm sure a few of you had plans.

Conditions on the lake were windy and partly cloudy at times. The fish seemed to be scattered and on structure at the same time. There were a few better fish up shallow and it took a combination of slow and fast tactics to get the bite, nothing seemed to work really well, nothing seemed to not work at all. From what we heard, everyone caught a bunch of small fish.

1st - Thompson/Howe - 18LBS 15OZ - $340.00
2nd - Guzman/Guzman - 17LBS 10OZ - $220.00
3rd - Naomi --------- 13LBS 00OZ - $160.00

1st Big Bass - Guzman/Guzman - 5LBS 11OZ - $260.00
2nd Big Bass - Thompson/Howe - 5LBS 9 OZ - $60.00

1st place report - the story of the day for us (Thompson/Howe) was rocks... Find a rocky drop off or a rock pile in 2-12 feet of water and get a few bites. The square bill coming off of rocky areas near structure (rocks/sticks) seemed to get a few bites here and there, mostly smalls, but just one quality fish early. The top water bite was there in the morning, we had 2 good bites and managed to put one of those in the live well. At 11:00AM we only had 2 in the livewell for about 10 lbs. After that we decided to slow down and fish spots thoroughly that we know held fish and it paid off. We put 2 quality fish in the livewell by 1:00Pm and then rounded out our limit with our smallest fish at about 1:30PM. After that we immediately caught one more small keeper that didn't help us. We continued to catch smalls all day long, probably boated 40-50 fish total, but we weighed in the first 5 keepers we caught and only caught 6 keepers all day! If you're going to get a few quality bites, those are the ones to get!

There is grass growing the the typical areas, still on the bottom, and I heard that there is matted (very dirty) grass in the very backs of the big coves, but no quality fish on that grass. The grass we pulled up in the typical spots is healthy and should be growing rapidly. Hopefully the lake level won't drop too fast and kill off what is trying to grow.

Next tournament is on Lake Austin, we are probably going to make it a night tournament to try to avoid the big boats out there.
