San Antonio is loaded with great places to fish. Canyon Lake, Calaveras Lake, Dunlap,Placid, Mcqueeney, are all with in an hour from San Antonio. All of these lakes are loaded with Channels and Blues. You should not have any problems catching some nice ones.

Well canyon is tough lake but it does have some big blues/flatties in that lake . Mcqueeny in other side has some great fishery . Calaveras /braunig is great place for fishing too including some Reds on those lakes.

One bait that is simply outstanding on the Channels down here in San Antonio is Big Marvs. Cut Shad on the Blues, and live sunfish or Cut Shad on the Yellows. To San Antonio

To be honest, of the lakes to fish in this area, Canyon would probably be the last I would pick for cats. They are there, we've caught some decent ones, but it is a real tough lake to fish and to find any bait. If I was just looking for blues I would fish Calaveras, Dunlap, or make the trip south, under 2 hours and fish Choke Canyon. Welcome to SA and good luck!

Thanks for all the info, I didnt realize calaveras was that close, it is 10 miles from my work in Converse, so looks like I will check calaveras out first, I will be bringing my boat down in the next few weeks if anyone wants to come along and catch some fish, thanks for all the info And I look forward to meeting some local TFFers and joining in on these south texas tourneys!

Doug, like said above canyon can be hard fishing but has a healthy pop. of blues and yellas...untapped resource in my opinion. Guad river will be the closet thing to catching fish similar to N Tx but not in the quantity Calaveras will offer alot of fun as well. Give me a shout when you get set up down here...help ya get your feet wet:) Cliff

canyon is tough but can be very good sometimes. i have never had much luck on shad, but chicken liver and live bluegill have worked well over the years. if you ever drag up a mussel shell on your hook you are prob in a good spot.
