Interested in looking for a hard tonneau cover for f150. Any opinions, good/bad, on cover types.

Try the Undercover, it's strong and lightweight. One person can remove it if necessary. Our Operations Manager has had these on his last two F150's and I will probably have one on my next F150. http://www.undercoverinfo.com/classic_photos.php

+1 for the undercover. Had one on my Dodge a few years ago. Haven't got one for my Chevy because it seems like every time I get a hundred bucks, I find a new fishing rod in my boat and an empty wallet, and saving up the $500+ is tough. But it's a great value if you're in that market. I loved mine.

A.R.E. is the best on the market, costs more but well worth it in the long run. I have had one on my last two trucks and will never have a truck without one on it. Just be aware that most of the covers out there are not waterproof so anything in the bed is subject to getting wet. Another plus is the fact that they will help fuel mileage by a small amount which will cut the overall cost of the cover.

Had my truck broken into thru cab window, nothing was taken. Cop was telling me that I should find a hard cover that is lockable to store stuff. He also said that tailgates are an easy target too if not secured. Are the undercovers or backflips securable?

Not sure about the backflip being secure but it doesn't look like I would put my big (self) on it and climb around. The Undercover is secure and strong enough to climb on. Securing the tailgate is relatively easy and inexpensive to do and a good suggestion even if you have a locking handle. I've done it to both my 97 and 06. The bakflip locks as long as you lock the tailgate.
I installed the bakflip 2 years ago and highly recommend it. I can fold it up and secure it to the cab in 10 seconds. I have had a little water come in. It is only when the nose of my truck is pointed up.

I do have a lock on it, but officer said that fords locks are easy to break into with a screwdriver. So right now I'm leaning toward an undercover. I'll have to go look at one.

The hard top covers sure look nice on a truck, but really limit what you can put in the bed, height-wise.(major appliances, some types of lawn equipment, landscape plants, etc, etc) Anyone who tells you they're easy to take off and put back on by yourself is crazy. If during the entire future ownership of your truck you don't forsee hauling anything taller than a medium sized dog crate, go for the hard tonneau cover, otherwise check out the Bak-Flip or some other variation thereof.

Don't plan on hauling big items you mentioned. Only hauling items when my wife and I take trips.
