In the month of May here on Caddo Lake the bass are coming out of their spawning stages and will begin getting on their summer patterns. Try fishing topwater lures such as buzzbaits, pop r's, and spooks along the edges of the grass and around the cypress trees in your 2-5 ft. of water. Another good pattern to utilize at this time of the year is your basic soft plastics such as a 8 or 11 inch Gene Larew worm in colors of plum, black, or purple. Fish these in your 4-8 ft. of water on the cypress trees, also in the creeks along the edges of the grass. Weightless flukes and senko type lures work great in the pad and grass mix that is now starting to grow heavily on the lake in May. Bream are going to continue to be in abundance this month too. Usually crickets are best but small crawfish and night crawlers are good too. Usually your more shallow 1-3 ft. of water in the cypress thickets and islands are best when looking for bream. Caddo is my favorite lake. I'm going to spend a couple of days there next week. I was wondering if you would tell me how to catch sand bass. thanks for any help.
