Wanted to post some info for Central Texas fishers.......
Fished Travis Sunday from 6:30a-6:30p.
Weather was cool at 48 and drizzly and overcast with north wind around 10mph, with slight gusts to 15.
Water was clear to 15' on main lake and Aquarena Springs clear in the backs of coves. All creeks had water flowing. Water temps ranged from 53-55 on the main lake and 55-58 in the coves.
Launched at Jones Park and headed towards the main lake points out by Starnes Island. Found no takers. Headed back towards Trails End and worked to the back of Trails End Cove. Not a bite. We were using spinners and cranks. At the back of the cove where water was flowing, we did see bass. But they could also see us. Water was crystal clear. Could read a book on the bottom at 12 feet. We took a break in the back and re-rigged to smaller line 6-8# green non-florescent and switched to T-rigged worms. Second cast and bam. 18" male. We worked all the coves in Sandy and found bass in the backs of all of them. We didn't expect to find bedding bass so early in March, especially after the last cold blast, but they were there. Good luck trying to catch those as they can see you coming for miles. We would fish to the back and stop fishing when we could see a bass on its bed. We would move out to deeper water to look for momma coming in. All fish on its beds were healthy looking males. The ones we could see were 16' or better. Did not see a typical Travis bass, 10", swimming anywhere. All in all, we caught 13 and missed about the same number, all on plastics in watermelon/chartreuse color. All but one were over 15". Most were in the 16-20" range and males. Most all were in around 5-10'. Did catch one femme that went 23" and very fat with eggs. She was caught in about 10' on 6# test. What a tussle. Males have definitely moved shallow and have already built beds. Femmes are a little deeper and looking for mates. Our main reason for going to Travis was to do some white bass fishing in the back of Trails End. Did not see a single white. Last year, the back of the cove was literally paved with whites. We are heading back on Thursday to check out Cypress area.

Haven't had a chance to get back out due to work constraints. My fishing buddy went back out to Trails End area on 3/11. Again he launched at Jones Park and worked all the coves in Sandy. He ended up catching 10, mostly males with the biggest around 18". All were caught in 12' or less on watermelon/chart worms.

Also wanted to add that the bigger bass we saw on beds last weekend have already done their deed and abandoned the bed. He did mention that he saw more beds in the backs but were smaller fish. He did see bass doing the dance, but again they were the smaller fish and not the bigger ones seen last week. And to save discussion, we did not fish for bass that we saw on beds. We moved to slighty deeper water to look for the bigguns.

Thanks for the info. Im new to fishing Lake Travis, I just bought a new 17 foot center console.
When you say you all launched from Jones Park, you mean Jonestown right? You all fished the coves on the Sandy Creek side?
We will probably try it out Saturday monring.
