We were fishing a tournament on Pines yesterday. My Dad lost an nice one a horny toad in some grass so I picked up my frog and threw in the same grass. I pulled the frog over a log and all hell broke loose, it sounded like someone dropped a bowling ball in water. At first I thought I had a toad, but when I finally got it out of the grass, I realized it was a grinnel (bowfin). Those things have serious teeth!. We didnt win the tourney but it was fun catching that thing and we had a good laugh.

I'll take fighting a bowfin over a largemouth any day, time or place!

been there done that. I was skipping a frog way back under boat docks last summer on cypress in a tournament and had about 17#s in the boat and knew I needed a good one to have a shot and one of those toothy critters blew up on my frog at about 2:30. Thought I had the one, couldn't see the bite... just heard it. Scared me to death! scared
