How is the fishing out there right now? I like to flip the reeds but couldn't get to them in the fall cause of the low lake level.

It hasnt caught any water since fall. I was there Sunday and pretty much all of the reeds are out of the water. Stillwaters Bass Club is having their tournament there Saturday. There will probably be 40+ boats.

I hear the fish are on the beds. Catchin the hell out of em. Most reeds outta water. I don't know if the lake caught any water last night, but there was a storm down there. Water temp should be pretty warm though. Prolly around 70 by now. Any one else been down there lately?

Really shallow or bone dry were I like to fish as of last weekend. A couple of really nice pigs were rutting up one of my favorite spots.

Lots of big fish being caught there right now. It didn't catch any rain at all today from that storm. It rained hard for about 5 minutes in Haskell, with pea sized hail just after 7am this morning. Then, blue bird skies in 15 minutes. I talked to a local guy Monday up there that showed me pictures of a 10 1/2 and two 9's for his 3 bigger fish of the day. So, if he were in a tourney like the Stillwater's with a 3 fish bag, he would have had close to 30 pounds! Should be a slug fest in the Stillwater's tourney.

On a side note, the crappie are going crazy there!! Bloody tailed, good solid 13" females everywhere on the banks.

So how low is the lake? I'm seeing reports of 3 foot low, but then I hear other people saying it's more like 12 foot low. I'm guessing it's closer to 12 than 3.....

I live in Haskell...10 minutes from Lake Stamford. The lake is absolutely ON FIRE. It looks to be at least 10' low. It's very difficult to find any reeds with water on them. The fish appear to be far from spawning. I've seen no swollen bellies or any sore tails. Water temp has reached 70. Water color is good.

I have no idea about what you mean about the parking lot...it hasn't changed a bit.

Last year there were reeds in 8' depth. This year, they're high and dry. So, I would be betting it's around 9 to 10 foot low too from full pool.

I don't usually post about the fishing on Stamford, because I believe it to be one of the hidden gems in West Texas, however the fishing on that lake is unbelievable right now. Had the chance to get out there and prefish this weekend for our annual Haskell Bass Club Open Tournament which will be on April 21st. Took my Uncle (who rarely bass fishes). We caught over a hundred bass in two days with biggest weighing 8 lb 15 oz. I really believe it will take 3 fishat 20 lbs. to win Stillwaters on Saturday. The lake is about seven feet low, and has been relatively full since the flood in 2006. So the fish are really bunched up.

We have a tourney there at the end of the month and I'm really looking forward to it..I love seeing new lakes and it sounds like the fishing is pretty good to boot.
