First why is everyone happy about the rain?? Im not a fan of it especially when we were having the best crappie season that I can remember...Second, will the crappie move up shallow and make new nests or will they still spawn out in 5 or 6 ft of water that was only a foot deep when they made the nest? If they do move up shallow I think they will be harder to catch since the lake was full of weeds and dead grass...What are your thoughts?

I feel the same way. The lakes I fish are 3 1/2 and 5.28 ft high right now and I have no idea what the spawning fish will do. The nests that were in 1 ft are now in 4ft. Not to mention the time it takes to draw the lakes back down in time for the next rain. BTW, more rain forecast next week. More rain, more rain!!!!!!! LOL!

Sometimes it has to be about the OVERALL health on the lakes, and water storage for the state. Ok, you had them found, and now will haft to refind them. Such is fishing. Lakes have been at a critical low for 1 1/2 years.
In a perfect world, the lake levels would remain at FULL POOL all year long. But in Texas you take it when you can get it, and be dang proud that you don't have Docks out of water, Ramps Closed, Guys boats stuck in docks, Brush piles in 5-6 foot of water sitting on dry lan, and several more things.
Having to relocate fish seems like a small price to pay for lakes to be full. Plus, we have not even got to the rainy season.

Lakes out this was are still low. Some so low that they will go away soon. Would love to have the problem of a lake that is too full.

It is amazing the mind set of some, it rains for a day and they complain, especially the TV station hosts and anchors. We have just dodged the bullet with the rain we have recieved, what a blessing!! West Texas is still suffering. To those that complain have you ever suffered water restrictions in your home where your bath water is also to be used to flush your toilet?

The crappie spawn is just beginning; there are more fish that will move shallow. New nests will appear at the proper depth based on temp and clarity. They will be harder to locate with all the new ground under water. Fishing for them in these conditions will make you a better fisherman. If you give up easily, you won't learn. Crappie still like the same type bottom with the lake up. Think about where those good banks were before the rise. And the falling water will definitely hamper the bite. If water is falling less than 2" per 24hrs, they will be shallow. If falling faster than that, things will be very slow and they'll be deeper.
As far as the rain; the posts above cover our elation perfectly. Local lake was 12.5ft low Dec 1; it's now 6ft above normal. Most of us were expecting more water restriction this summer. Farmers and ranchers were in dire straits. Things are looking a lot better now. The folks out west are still in a desperate situation.

Keith and Ken said it well. I can't believe anyone is upset about getting the much needed rain!

Ah to be young and have your blinders on.......Lakes are here to provide flood control and drinking water. Fishing is a byproduct. Texas had the worse drought in history last year. No one should ever complain about rain again (unless your house is being flooded).

I have to agree with the majority here. After last year, I will never complain about the rain again. My private lake was 4 feet low and I didn't know if we would get enough to fill it before the summer. After yesterday's 2.38 inches in Texarkana, I may get close to full. Just waiting for all the beautiful run off to drain.

First of all I was asking a couple questions, not complaining!! Second I wasn't referring to every lake in Texas!! How about yall show some respect and answer people a little more politely....for instance you could of said....well our lakes here in West Texas are really low and we would love the rain!! How am I suppose to know the lake level for all the lakes? Thanks to the one guy who answered my question and the rest of you good luck....whats wrong with complaining about the rain anyway?? Since yall are gonna be that way then next time you complain anything in LIFE stop a minute and think about it before opening your mouth....quit acting yall are so perfect that you don't complain about anything....thats one thing that sucks about this forum is no matter what there are those who complain about someone who is complaining....Damn complainers!!

Keith and Ken said it well. I can't believe anyone is upset about getting the much needed rain! That's easy for you to say. CC is 1/2ft over pool. How would you like CC to be 5.5ft high?
