Judging by post I have read on here over the past few weeks is that the fishing is still slow on Fairfield. I would say 90% of people replying to post have said they haven't had any luck. As for me, I haven't been back since the kill. Hope this helps.

If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

OK just got back from fairfield a couple of hours ago... The lake is pretty well dead... unless your looking for a Talapia fishery...or castnettery... Lots of folks were throwing cast nets for loads of talapia.... I prefer poking an arrow shaft through their gill plate, but to each there own. I never saw a large mouth bass or a red..... I didn't even suspect one, lol...

Good luck to anyone who wants to go try... Fairfield state park is nice this time of year....

Does TPWD plan on doing anything about this? They spent all that time and money stocking stupid red fish...you would think they could at least get it back to a half way decent bass lake in the next couple years

You have to fix the problem first, whats the point of stocking just to have them die off.

Thank you for your report about tilapia. This is what I am looking for and your report is the first and most current report I can find about Fairfield tilapia. I plan to go there this weekend.

From what I was told they tried to restock after the first big kill. Then we had this last one and they said no more wasting resources and funds as long as it continues. Finally made a trip out there couple of weeks ago for bass and we caught 20-25. It was no where close to what it used to be with only one big fish (6#). All of the smaller fish though looked like footballs so hopefully in a couple of years it will make a comeback.

Don't think any kind of plan will work. The lake just simply has to receive a ton of rain bc there is no watershed to it and gets very limited runoff. The good ol' days of lake fairfield are going to be a thing of the past i'm afraid frown

They should put in the redfish and see how it works. Not the same numbers as in the past but maybe 100,000 in this year. not 400,000. I think it can get back to the old days if they will work with it a little more.

Fairfield Lake is primarily a power producing lake just like Tradinghouse reservoir was. Neither existed for the purpose of propogating fish. When the power plant at Tradinghouse shut down, there was no sense in continuing to stock it and slowly the fish died off from the cold winters. Same goes with Fairfield - after 2-3 sizable fish kills why continue to stock it? They aren't going to think about the fishery when it comes time to back-flush their filter system to keep the plant operating.
