I heard someone say that Jagermeister would be good to add to dip bait cause it has Anise oil in it. Anybody have any luck with this? I saw the Anise oil at the store for $5...

Jger bombing the cats...good one. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to share a couple shots with the fish you're gonna be cooking later. Black licorice would probably work, too.

When I was a kid, I was told that Anise oil was illegal to have in your tackle box. After figuring out that wasn't the case, I tried cut licorice sticks ( which use Anise for flavoring ) for bait. they actually worked great.

Here is a really good article by Keith Sutton about unusual baits for catfish.

Catfish bait article

I have been documenting on video unusual baits for a couple of years and it has been astonishing what they will bite.

In the article, he mentions baby chicks, in real life I have watched bass and catfish clean out dozens of duck hatchlings almost immediately after hitting the water in my lake.

I have never seen dead red in any store, I think I could save money by just growin the seeds myself, i was thinking pulverize those seeds and throw'em in some almond oil. throw a few crawdads in there and let it set in the sun a few weeks, bam! I got 5 gallons of dead red for FREE! whatever that stuff is. If you say go to bass pro or whatever, nope, I dont have the money to go in there, I might lose a months pay in there.

The tackle shop in Fun and Sun in Hurst has Dead Red and a assortment of Team Catfish tackle in stock. They are mostly a bass tackle shop but they seem to have a hard time keeping that catfish stuff in stock. They order quite a bit and it flies off the shelf.

Anise scent will work for several species of fish but.......if you want a SUPER scent attractor, get a bottle of OIL OF RHODIUM.

It is made from the roots of a plant related to honeysuckle. I had one partial bottle years ago that I used sparingly and finally gave it to my Brother in North Carolina. He caught lots of catfish with the remaining few drops in the little two ounce bottle and the CHARLOTTE OBSERVER ran a piece in the paper about it. This was years ago.

I have not been able to lay my hands on any of it since. I bought the partial bottle at KEITH'S DRUGSTORE in Sherman Texas way back in the sixties.

My Grand father used to put a little anise oild on the tail of minnows. He said it burned the tail and kept them swimming trying to cool it off. Seemed to work good we always caught fish and lots of channels and small yellows on the minnows. That's my only anise expirience.
