What is the best and most useable ramp? Is there any timber to look out for? I'm really more interested in crappie, but I figure you bass guys know a bit more about the lake? Is the bottom mostly mud or rock? Thanks!

The public ramp by campground is one of the best around. Other than the one cove heading south not alot of timber. Have only fished for bass. Pretty clear water, NO grass, BIG grass csrp swimming around. Good luck!!

Jacksonville would be one of the last places I would go, unless you're visiting family on the lake. The lake owners association and TPWD (Richard Ott) has just about ruined it by putting too many grass carp per acre and now its now where near what it once was since all the grass has been stripped.
I would definately hit up Tyler or Palestine, if you have the option.

I used to head to Jacksonville every couple of days a few years back. The fishing has gone to [censored] IMO. I would catch Carp on drop shots.... Its basically one big fish bowl with no grass and little brush. there is some rock up north. 2 ramps do not know which one is accesible right now. they do get to schooling however and then its on but its not much right now. There are a ton of small fish in Jville, your better chance is Palestine or Tyler.

I would say Palestine if you don't know either lake and like catching fish. There is a lot of dead water on Tyler and those fish are edumacated.
