March All Sunfish Contest: This is a free contest and open to all Anglers. All fish must be caught in Public Texas Waters. Contest Word: "SUNFISH".

Contest Rules and entry thread.
#1. This is a totally free contest and the HONOR SYSTEM will play a very important part. All Fish must be caught in public Texas Waters. The contest will begin Thursday March 1,2012 and will end Saturday 8:00 P.M. March 31,2012.
#2. All entries must be posted on this thread. First posting gets the tie breaker and this will automatically show in the current standings.
#3. The target fish is all Six Sunfish Species as described by the Texas Parks&Wildlife Dept. They are the Longear,Redear,Blue Gill,Green,Redbreast,and Warmouth.
#4. All entries will be judged by length only. Each entry must clearly show the fishes length. The fish should be next to a clearly marked ruler or measuring tape. The measurement must be clearly visible for all to see.
#5. Measurements will be rounded to the nearest quarter of an inch just like all of the past contest. Example. A fish that is 5.26" will be 5.25". A fish that is 5.37" will be 5.50". Again measurements must be clearly visible.
#6. All entries must be posted on this thread and the photo must have the contest word and date of catch clearly inside the picture with the fish. The angler needs to add in their report the type of water body where the fish was caught (naming optional) and any other information they want to add reference to the catch.
#7. All fish must be caught using a Rod&Reel or Fly Rod. Any bait artificial,dead,and live baits can be used.
#8. Junior Angler is 12 years of age or younger. If the entry is a junior angler the angler's name needs to be posted with the report and the words junior angler need to be on the report.
#9.There will be two divisions. Adult and Junior. The top five places will receive gift cards from Academy Sports And Outdoors. Adult Division: First Place $25.00. Second Place $10.00. Third Place $5.00. Fourth Place $5.00. Fifth Place $5.00. Junior Division: First Place $10.00. Second Place $6.00. Third Place $5.00. Fourth Place $5.00. Fifth Place $5.00. All Gift Cards will be sent out within two weeks after the completion of the contest.
BONUS FISH ROUNDS:
#1. Bonus fish rounds will be posted throughout the contest. All rules above apply when necessary.
#2. Bonus fish must be 7" or longer to qualify unless stated otherwise in the Bonus fish alert.
#3. A Bonus word along with target fish will be posted in the "Bonus Fish Alert"!. The bonus word and date of catch must be inside the picture.
#4. Junior Anglers can compete in the Bonus Rounds.
#5. A five dollar gift card from Academy Sports&Outdoors will be awarded to each bonus round winner.
BIG FISH AWARDS!
There will be three Big Fish Awards given out. These awards will be given out at the end of the December 2012 Contest. They are. #1. Longest Sunfish Posted. #2. Longest Blue Gill Posted. #3. Longest Sunfish Posted Junior Angler. A Shakespeare open face spinning rod ultra light combo will be awarded to the three Big Fish Winners at the end of the year. The current leaders will be posted with the current standings.
Big Fish entries must be a target fish at the time of entry. Bonus fish are included.
#10. All laws in the Texas Penal Code and the Texas Parks&Wildlife need to be followed and obeyed.
#11. Since this contest is totally free any disputes will be handled by only one person and his or hers decisions will be final.
#12. In the event of a tie for first place in the adult division a sudden death fish off will take place. A new contest word and new target fish will be posted along with sudden death rules.

This is the second year for these contest. Lets have some fun and enjoy our outdoors. The Sunfish should start getting very active in March. Look for grass beds and budding tree lines. Docks and other structure such as trees and rocks should be good areas to fish. Good luck to all and stay safe.

I am going to Dunlap today, I asked BAF to go, TuN3R...nobody wanted to go - so that means all of my fish will be 10 to 20% bigger and I will catch 50% more.

Same here. I won't be able to fish the contest for a few weeks.
Work is too demanding right now and I am heading to the coast Sunday for a while to catch some beach action, waves and lots of fishing.
Last time I caught a bunch of crabs. Hope to have better luck this time :P
